About Boosey & Hawkes Production Music

Every day people around the world hear Boosey & Hawkes Production Music on their favourite television shows, advertisements, radio programmes, and anywhere else music is used professionally to support a creative idea.

More choice

Boosey & Hawkes Production Music offers your production more choice and more versatility. The four libraries – Cavendish Music, Abaco, Strip Sounds and PPM – contain over 500 albums. From spacious to intimate and from traditional to contemporary, the catalogue contains everything you could ask for.

Additionally, each CD is accompanied by up to 200 web-only tracks consisting of edits and underscores, meaning that you don’t have to compromise. However, if you need more control over your production, Strip Sounds and products such as the Editors Construction Kit (ECK) can give you just that.

All Strip albums contain alternative versions and mixes, enabling you to tie your production together musically. The ECK comes with broken down layers so you can quickly and easily build a soundtrack that perfectly complements the action.

However, what really sets Boosey & Hawkes apart is the bespoke service. Recent releases can now be tweaked, remixed or re-edited to meet your needs. Or one of over 100 accomplished composers can be commissioned to create unique music for your production.

With over 70 years of experience, we know and understand the importance of remaining versatile in addition to providing a high-quality range of off-the-shelf music solutions.

The original music co.

Boosey & Hawkes originated from the 1930 merger between two great family businesses. Shortly after, Boosey & Hawkes Production Music was formed (c.1937), originally providing recordings of classical music.

The company soon introduced original music, written for the ‘talkies’ by specialist composers. Frederic Curzon, Trevor Duncan, Edward White, Cyril Watters and Eugene Cines are now recognised as the early masters of light, or ‘mood’, music. This music is what set Boosey & Hawkes PM aside as the original production music library and one of the forerunners of production music.

Boosey PM today

Cavendish Music was born as Boosey began the move from vinyl to CDs. The label was named after the highly successful 1970’s Boosey & Hawkes Cavendish Series, where visionary producer Bassett Silver and composer/arranger Ray Davies gathered the cream of the UK’s session musicians to create an iconic collection of funk and soul.

Florida-based Abaco Music Library was acquired in 2006, broadening the company's already extensive catalogue. Soon after, Strip Sounds – a label which provides multiple versions, mixes and edits – was founded in order to meet the growing technical demands of TV and film editors, maintaining Boosey & Hawkes Production Music’s position as an innovator and market leader.
